Madhuri Dixit

Madhuri is an Indian actress who achieved recognition for her performance in the films Hum Aapke Haiin Koun and Beta Saajan. In the late 80s the actress began her acting career, and was well-known for the character Tezaab in which she appeared with veteran actor Anil Kapooor. Her next film was the movie Dil in which she starred alongside Aamir Khan. In Mumbai the city she was born by middle class parents. When she was a young age, she started to learn dance. At the age of 15, she started acting but was not successful as a lot of her movies were unsuccessful. The actress gained fame and was one of India's top movie actresses. She decided to take a break from acting after her wedding before returning to the entertainment industry. She played a major role on Gulaab Gang, a film that explores the struggles of women in India. Dixit was nominated for 15 Filmfare Awards. Of these she's received 8. Padma Shri was awarded to her, which is the fourth-highest civil honour in India. She also has a reputation for her social activism.
